At 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 20, 2003, African-American
Collective Theater, (ACT), continued it’s summer reading series of
new works-in-progress with the first public performance of Christmas Gifts at the Warehouse Next Door
theater space.
Pictured above are cast members, Charles W. Harris,
Jr., Josette Murray, Martin Pree, Leila Chynna Pree, and
Lynn Chavis, with narrator, Pamela Jafari, and
playwright, Alan Sharpe.
Christmas Gifts chronicles a
pivotal Christmas Eve that finds stressed-out
Dolores "Dolly" Coleman juggling: her toy-crazed ten
year-old, boy-crazy teen, a sentimental ex-husband, and her
independent female lover -- even as she faces an ominous discovery
that may change all of their lives forever.
The one-act script is a companion piece to Sharpe’s "Auld
Lang Syne", which will be seen in the 2003 Source Theatre
Festival. The two plays are projected to be
paired for a full production at the end of year, during the holiday
season.
